Get to know me

Hi! I am a Master of Counselling graduate student, and am very excited to get to do my practicum at Mindbuffs. Having a pretty unconventional path to get here – I majored in Biological Sciences for my undergraduate degree, and then worked in business & corporate sales for 12+ years – I’m a big believer

that both the journey as well as the destination matter, and when we can be helped to discover our values, develop our strengths, learn and accept what can’t be changed, and take action where it counts, then our best is possible.

Whether for performance or everyday life, I believe that experiencing fulfillment is distinct from achievement, and is just as important. I also believe that each person is capable of achieving things that are important to them, and that the road to get there will be just as unique as their individual skills, strengths, and experiences. While big achievements often show up in our goals, how and why we endeavour to achieve them can be just as important for our sense of purpose and fulfillment – and so can the hardships we encounter along the way. This is where our core values come in.

Whether in athletic or business performance arenas, my experiences have shown me that achieving our greatest is possible when the process connects us with our values, strengths, autonomy, and identity – and when our humanity is just as valued as our performance. For many reasons, this connection can be difficult to make on our own all the time. What can result is burnout, lack of boundaries, avoidance, work-life imbalance, and well-being and relationship issues – all experiences that are likely not congruent with one’s core values.

My athletic & career experiences have also shown me that mental health concepts and practices aren’t always accessible in professional or performance contexts, yet the costs of missing them are often felt by the individual and the organization or team alike. I’d like to help normalize diverse mental health matters at the individual, team, and community levels so that developing new skills and getting needed support can be a more accessible lifestyle for everyone. I’m passionate about helping individuals explore what’s most important for them in their experiences, relationships, and performances so that they can decide what motivation, success, and actualization look like for them.
